Vibe welcomes visiting Teaching Artist Hans Barklis for a series of wonderful music classes reflecting some of our rich and varied culture here in Portland!
Mondays 7-8pm: Capoeira for teens and adults.
Capoeira is a physical, musical, community game. Originally a martial art developed by African slaves in NE Brazil and hidden from slave masters as a dance, today capoeira incorporates a variety of kicks, dodges, acrobatics, music, and ritual into a community celebration that is challenging, engaging, and rewarding! This class is for adults or teens 14 years and older. (Please contact us if your younger child is interested!)
Students will have the opportunity to explore interlocking polyrhythms in the context of Cuban Rumba, connect to folk songs and melodies from around the Caribbean, and discover their own unique songwriting expressions within these rich traditions.
